My mother, the editor of this blog, said: My second labour was much easier than my first. All sensations were known, things were much more predictable. Although I still do not believe the labour can be orgasmic experience. Thanks for managable contractions, walking around, arnica D30, sitting on ball, bending over ball, G for massage, assistence and moral support, for less than half an hour of intense contractions, for a mask, for not to push, for no stich and no blood loss. The miracle of life :)

I am convinced (more and more) that our verbal communication is just a few % of understanding. Body language is the best. But we have to read it fluently. I have some difficulties with reading body language of adults, since it is masked with many words. Maybe I am more successful of reading signs of toddlers. At the time we can understand almost every wish of our 1 year old daughter. In fact she can drink and eat alone, but need some help with “ka ka”. She can show “pa pa” when somebody goes away, “velika velika” with the arms under her head, “ojoj” with her fingers on the forehead, “močna močna” with closed feasts and “aaja aaja” when she bend her head to horizontal. She can imitate (with a sound) things like a car, a duck, a dog and an Indian. Well, there are a lot more things she can do or tell, but sometimes it feels so nice egoistic that you say something and your child just do it. And even more egoistic to tell others what she can already do. Although, life is not just what we do, but who we really are.

tip 8 – sleep like a baby

She slept according to the book, like a baby. Except that after third months she rarely did a long nap. So she took just the advantages of first quarter of two-hour sleep cycle. She got tired very quickly. Thanks to pacifier we did not experience any difficulty with her sleep. She could sleep anywhere where a pacifier and a cat were. Pretty fast, by herself (or so we thought, not to forget the pacifier). Till 7 and ½. Then she woke up every 2 hours during the night and could not fall back asleep without help. Even walking around did not help immediately, few minutes of cry were inevitable. Well, enough is enough. Her parents got too tired and they decided to help her fall asleep without a pacifier. With the help of a book (Elisabeth Parsley: Otroško spanje, brez joka v spanje) the first 10 days were even more exhausting. Then it got better and better, she woke up only once per night! It does not matter, if it worked because of a book or because the first tooth came through (with the tooting Chamomilla D30 helped a lot, it redused loud endless crying during the night). In fact, it seems, that it is always something bothering the sleep-like-a-baby sleep. Now it is the second tooth.

It is great to be a parent of 7 months old child, although, sometimes parenting is quite demanding because:
1. it takes at least 1/2 an hour to prepare a decent meal with vegetables or fruits, squashing everything, adding carbohidrates...
2. you hope, the child is hungry
3. it takes 1 hour to sit next to a child, eat something for yourself to be a part of the process, but most of all, you give instantly a fool spoon, take things from the floor and back to the plate, give water, and dessert (a piece of apple, rice bisquits, crackers without salt...) if you are lucky, eating a bisquit brings you enough time to clean a little bit
4. during the meal we usually make a poop
5. it takes 1/2 an hour to clean the kitchen after a meal and undress/dress a child (again)
6. 1/2 hour is all you have, before you must start all over again...

Why people do not eat just once a day? It takes so many hours a day doing something in a connection with the food. Nevertheless, we are happy that she is quite an eater. But sometimes I wish thath babies should be only brestfeed until school or something ;)

Three days after the labour, we were dismissed from the Hospital. Since then my breast and our daughter’s appetite are communicating. They just have to become synchronised and it is not so easy. For instance, I got 39,4 degrees because of mastitis. But at the moment we are doing fine and we even sleep some parts of the night (3-6 hours). Interesting, so small baby and so much work with it: 1. hungry, 2. sleepy, 3. shitty, 4. repeat randomly. But, we are very happy to have her :))

friday, the 13th of February 2009 - the luckiest day

Yes, giving a birth is really a hard work. But yes, very rewarding. The labour passed through in less than 2 hours, which is extremely fast for the first time. And there were some moments when contractions were so intense and frequent that I hardly follow myself. I could not breathe and relax my body properly through all the long lasting contractions in a first hour, but in last hour, when contractions become shorter, I manage to do so. All the rest was pretty fine. My favourite part is the last part, when you really help to push the baby out. A new family can then be together and left alone for a few hours. It is magic. Magic, every second of it.

I will try to put some thoughts on this blank sheet, just not to forget. The longer version of my labour story. It is more for me, not to forget the details. So everybody else, not interested in particular details of my labour, maybe you should stop reading this nonsense.
On Thursday, at the end of 39th week, (a day before labour) my Doc said, that fluid inside the womb is missing. So we went to the hospital, to check that everything is ok, just to get a second opinion. They also confirmed that neck of the uterus was practically gone. I was 1 cm opened. In this case they preventively induce the labour with prostaglandins. “That’s it, just come back tomorrow morning.” I must say, I was pretty shocked, (huh, tomorrow?!) and what is it with this Friday, the 13th, is it the lucky one? I was scared a little, due to fearful stories I have heard about induced labours. I really wanted to do it as natural as possible. So, very early in the Friday morning, we tried application of natural prostaglandins. Few hours later some really mild contractions started. In the morning we went to the hospital and a doctor was persuaded that this labour should be moved a little faster. They gave me artificial prostaglandins locally and sent to Department E of Maternity Hospital to rest. A few hours later the contractions became more and more real. So I stopped lying down and start walking around. When on feet, moving around, contractions weren’t painful at all. After a CTG, a doctor examined me (I was opened 3 cm), and sent me to the Maternity ward. I got enema, which is quite ok, and after that, some intense contractions started (every 4 minutes, 40-50 seconds long). All these breathing exercises, I had practiced last month, I used for real and it helped. The following hot shower felt great! Soon my partner was allowed to join me and I felt so happy. I must say, he was fantastic all the time, throughout the whole labour. Invaluable! So, we were walking down and up the corridor, he massaging my back. I had to stop on every contraction (every 3 minutes, 50 seconds) and lean against the wall or the fence and breathe. At that stage I was a little worried that they forgot about me, but they did not. All of a sudden I have heard a “big bang” and a little-reddish fluid start to leak between my legs on the floor. After that, contractions started to be painful (every 2 minutes, 50 seconds). If they would have waited a little longer, I would not have got to maternity room by myself. On every contraction maximum the pain was so hard, that my legs become so weak, that I could easily fall on the floor. So, I got a bed and CTG, lying on my side, coping with the hardest part of my labour. It was not just my feeling, also CTG proved long plateaus of maximum contractions. It is hard, because something inside you contracts so intense that is unbelievable that you could stay relaxed with the rest of your body. When you are not relaxed, it cramps you even more and your body is shaking and you cannot breathe and it hurts. But when you succeed to tell yourself to remain calm, relaxed and you do not contract other parts, then it is much easier and after contraction is gone, you just fall into a deep sleep. My eyes were closed all the time and I could not talk about anything. Luckily, as we were approaching 10 cm, contractions started to be shorter and I was quite successful to breathe over them. I did not object when I got some opiates into the vain, since I could not talk. Frankly, I did not even care, since I thought that my labour will last at least 6 hours more. I was not sure I can take all these pain for all these hours. So, the last pushing part was the most rewarding, pain was nearly there. Pushing was the first effective part, where I had the power and the control over the labour. I was told how and when to push and I was cooperating. It was so comforting that partner was supporting my back, since it is much easier to push when you are not lying down. I felt with every contraction something is moving towards my ass. Then I felt a burning sensation. It must have been the head. A few moments later I pushed again and something slipped down and out of me. That “Something” was on someone’s hands, blue and white and it soon started to breathe. So, after 9 months from the beginning and just after 2 hours from bladder rapture, our daughter was born. I got no episiotomy, but got some stitches inside, but I did not care. I was simply happy. Half an hour later they left us in the room and we got her on my stomach. We tried to breastfeed, and most of all we were looking at each other and could not stop being amazed about this miracle of life.

Hey, what were you doing this weekend, where did you go?

I will tell you, very interesting weekend, indeed. On Thursday I just slightly touched one cute toxic bastard (hrastov sprevodni prelec) and look what happened! For the last few days I have been scratching myself all over the body and was a little worried if I ever get my eye back. As you see on the pictures, in a few days the worst is over. Rash is still itching, but eye is better.

Concerning the little bastard, some say that this year they are extremely toxic. I have heard that in Kranj they even tell people not to go into the forest these days. When we were children, we hold these animals on our palm, but nothing happened. Why? We have all heard how bad we treat the environment and it will “treat us” soon back. For me it looks that the tones of toxicants (pesticides, insecticides, etc.) slowly intoxicate our nature and this shows up like this too. After all, these caterpillars, they are sort of cute and they will become beautiful butterflies some day. But laying in the bed for a few days with a rash and swollen eye was not extremely cute for me.

This is one of those things – I could not believe it if it would not happened to me. So small, so cute and so toxic.

I like playing bdmt. Officially it is called badminton. In previous years there were some sport centers, which made their own tournaments, like The Badminton League of Vogu or The League of Dolgi Most and the Ljubljana Badminton Club . This year the Slovenian recreational badminton has done a great step forward. We’ve got The Trump ranking - a list with rankings for all the recreational tournaments together and almost every weekend we could attend some tournament somewhere in Slovenia, from Maribor to Izola. I played on 20 tournaments and I am satisfied with my progress.

Can you think of a thing/work that you think you could never do it? Do you have at least one such thing? I am sure you do. For me, this was “to unicycle”. Of course I have seen them cycling around, sitting on just one wheel in some circus or something, but I could not imagine I could ride an uni-bike for myself. Never. Never ever. It is not yet sure, that I will actually ride it, but for the beginning, I got one for my birthday. Here down is the picture and I am wondering how long it will take to give you a link to the video where I am actually riding it :). Well, at least I have started to learn. Not very easy, I must admit. But I will not give up… never ;).

At the age of 21 (days) I transfer all my remaining fish to the regular small fish tank. The transfer was quite successful and so far I must say everything goes ok. Just don't get it why some fish are 3-times bigger than other. What if the bigger ones eat the small ones?! Natural selection or what.
